Freezing cold winters that morph into depressingly humid summers. Somewhere in there are little slices of perfection to enjoy all year long. The working man metality of the midwest is something I respect, especially having grown up raised by hard workers. No place feels as reassuring to me as The Prairie State, and my little corner of it.
This is where it all started for me. I used to stand outside at night as a kid, watching for the Millenium Falcon flying among the stars (secretly hoping Han and Chewie would pick me up to help fight the Empire). Once I learned that people made the art and models and effects to create these movies I was hooked - I wanted to create stuff too. George Lucas was the one who opened the door to a greater world of creativity for me.
I like to think that 100% Mediterranean heritage makes it pre-determined that I have to cook. I don't get to do it as often as I like, but I truly enjoy dicing, chopping, mixing, and making food for others. There's an order and a science to it, but the personal style that you put into it is what makes it unique.
By far the most fulfilling and wild adventure that I have been on has so far been being a husband and dad. It's cliche, but true - my wife and kids make me a better person, and make me strive to be more complete and creative in all I do. We're a work in progress, and I can't wait to see where we go next.
